Emmaville Primary School

Nutrition, Packed Lunches and Oral Health

At Emmaville Primary school, we recognise the importance of a balanced diet for a healthy lifestyle. We know the impact that healthy food has on not only physical, but also mental wellbeing. We know how it affects a child’s energy levels, their mood, and their ability to think and concentrate.

As part of our commitment to physical education, health and wellbeing, and a child’s holistic development, we encourage healthy packed lunches.

According to NHS choices, a balanced lunchbox should contain:

  • Starchy foods like bread, rice, potatoes or pasta.
  • Protein foods like meat, fish, eggs or beans.
  • A dairy item, like cheese or yogurt.
  • Vegetables or salad and a portion of fruit.

Healthy Packed Lunches' Competition

As part of Emmaville's commitment to health, fitness and well-being, we have been raising awareness of healthy eating. Each class taught a lesson about a balanced diet and how this might be reflected in a healthy packed lunch. The children were tasked with designing a healthy packed lunch and one winner was chosen from each class. We had stacks of scrumptious and healthy designs from our children so choosing only one from each class was extremely tricky. But, the winning children were Evan, Charlotte, Amelia, Leo, Ophelia, Max, Rachel, Mina, Poppy, Lois, Maddie and Aleisha. Congratulations!  Each winning entry was awarded a limited edition (only twelve in the world) Emmaville embroided packed lunch bag.
