Paralympian Stephen Miller Visits

31st January 2017

On Friday 20th January, Paralympic hero Stephen Miller visited Emmaville to launch a National competition to design the mascots for the World Para Athletics Championships and the IAAF World Championships, both to be held in London 2017. As well as inspiring the children with stories of his experiences at no less than six Paralympic Games, he showed us some of his medals and also spent time answering some great questions from some of our Year 6 pupils. He then went on to watch some PE lessons and chatted to the children, some of whom were interviewed for the news reports for Made in Tyne & Wear News and ITV Tyne Tees, which you can see by using the links below:

The story has also featured in the Northumberland Gazette and The News Post Leader.

With a great sense of humour and such obvious determination, Stephen has had a real impact on the children at the school; he will no doubt inspire many of them to achieve more and strive for their goals, and with any luck, one of them could be the lucky winner of the mascot competition. Fingers crossed!
